I probably will not have a difficult task today trying to convince you to eat watermelon! Fresh, delicious and so summery: it is loved by all (or almost) … But did you know how much this fruit (which is in the same family as cucumbers and squash, then from the botanical point of view it is closer to a vegetable) is also good for your health? Here are some reasons to eat even more all summer, as well as some recipes.
1. For Antioxidants
Like tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, watermelon contains lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. Researchers have already established that this substance has a protective effect against prostate cancer. Research continues on other common cancers.
2. Watermelon For The Heart
Watermelon contains beta-carotene, vitamin C, potassium and fiber. All these nutrients are known to promote good blood pressure, and a good level of blood cholesterol.
3. For Hydration
With 92% water, it’s almost as refreshing to eat in a slice of melon as drinking a glass of water! And when it’s really hot, any source of hydration counts. Especially in the case of children, who during a heat wave may refuse to drink enough but rarely raise their noses on watermelon!

Watermelon also contains a large amount of vitamin B6. This vitamin acts on our brain, reducing the symptoms of stress and anxiety. It could even in some cases prevent panic attacks.

- Skewers of marinated watermelon
- The sparkling wine: melon and mango juice
- Pancetta, melons and arugula
- 2 cups watermelon, diced
- 1/4 cup sliced black olives
- 1/2 English cucumber, diced
- 1 small jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- The juice of half a lime
Mix the ingredients in a bowl. Serve with a grilled fish.
